Well planned layout for this course.
This course has some of the best risk/rewards holes I've ever seen, this coming from a person who hits his driver 240 - 280. If you can hit it further and straight then you'll score very well. I hit my driver only 4 times, choosing to play it safe in most cases because my driver isn't the straightest. It was 90 degrees when we played and the course provided free bottled water and coolers on the cart - very nice! GPS is interactive - also very nice! I scored OK but definitely would score score better the next time out. I attributed about 6 strokes to lack of course knowledge. Greens are lightning fast! But they roll well. There were 2 or 3 hole placements that were unreasonable (US Open placements). On the 3rd I barely tapped a 4' putt that caught the lip and rolled 20' past. Keep the ball below the hole! Can't stress that enough.
Definitely not worth the money
This is a $60 course at best. No way would I ever pay $140 to play here
Great Condition, Friendly Staff
This was our first time playing here and we were anxious to try it. First of all, the course was in excellent condition. Pace of play was great. It was obvious that they are continuing to make improvements. We will definitely play here again (especially at the $50 Golf Now rate). We only had 2 issues: (1) We checked in behind some Mohegan Sun employees and points users. It seemed to take forever! There has to be an easier way to accommodate this issue; (2) There was one very funky hole (I think it was #6 - the second par 5 on the front nine). What a weird layout. Maybe now that we know what to expect, we can manage it better next time. Keep on improving; great Connecticut golf option!
Very good shape.GPS on carts and yardage markers make it easier.
Course is in very good shape.Couple holes are really tough and have to be played perfect.Hole #6 should be #1 handicap.Four and half hour round cause of the difficulty of a few holes.Very enjoyable round!
Hole in one!!
I played the back nine first as directed by the starter and that nine holes had more charecter than the front nine (my back nine) with several blind shots (#12) and undulated greens. The conditions of the course were excellent and the greens were consistent. All staff members I encountered were both friendly and helpful. This course will always have a special place in my heart as I got my first hole in one on #8. I will definitely play this one again.
Enjoyable
I've played the course a few times now and each time
it gets a little bit better. A truly enjoyable experience. When hole #3 gets done around the green the course
will be among the best in Ct.
Enjoyable course w room for improvement
This course is very enjoyable for the casino crowd (using points/comps) but would not recommend it for the average player since the rate to play is too high.
Like:
Most of course is well maintained
Most Greens are fair but difficult and can be fast
Fairway bunkers well laid out
Good opening hole
Love holes 14 and 17
Decent closing hole
GPS recently installed on golf carts w phone chargers
Staff has always been friendly knowledgable and accommodating
Dislike:
Course design: some holes gimmicky or unfair:
Hole 3 : green cannot be hit in 2
Hole 6: should have kept as par 4
Hole 7: even w good drive, green is tough to land
Hole 12: green too undulating
Clubhouse looks like old motel
Driving range could be bigger
Gas powered carts
Overall I Would recommend this course to a friend and hope the course continues to improve
Excellent Course
I had a great time playing here yesterday. I started playing golf this summer and played here as a special outing. I've been sticking to hot deals to keep the cost of the hobby down as I figure out how to play so this was the most expensive course I've played. We played for the afternoon $59 rate for 18 and I'd say it was worth it.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. You get unlimited range balls when you play a round which was nice. The carts had GPS and coolers with bottled water. We restocked our water at the turn because it was so hot so the free bottled water was very helpful.
The course was incredibly challenging for me as a newbie. It had some of the deepest bunkers I've played so far. The greens were very fast and difficult for me. I still really liked the course.
My only negatives have nothing to do with the course or the staff. The guys in front of us were playing at a glacial pace and wouldn't stop to let me and my friend play through. One of them was a smoker and I think he was leaving his cigarette butts on the green. This is a really nice course and that was definitely a gross thing to do so if you're going to smoke on the golf course please be considerate of other players with your behavior in that regard.
First Time playing Mohegan Sun Course
The greens were challenging!
Many of the fairways were also challenging and there were a number of fairway bunkers to contend with.
Very challenging and enjoyable.
Way overpriced
I guess most people playing here are either members, on a package from the casino, or getting a reduced or free round with their points. I can't imagine that many people are paying the $140 weekend rack rate like we did for that experience. Hit and wait all day for a 5 hour round. Signs talking about a 4.5 hour round and a cute no slow play sticker on the carts just don't cut it. You need staff on the course keeping people moving. The par fives are a bit quirky but otherwise it's a decent layout. Greens were a little slow for my liking but with the slope on some of them faster greens could slow down the pace of play even more. Bunkers were a mixed bag. Fairways were very good, not many divots. Driving range was underwhelming compared to how it's described on the website. For a better price and better pace I would play again, but not for the time and money I just spent.
Great Layout
I very much enjoyed playing this course. Layout was imaginative and was challenging but fair. Greens were large, fast and sloping. Not a flat putt on the course. Tee to green not overly difficult but you need a good putting game to score well here. Regular rates are on the high end for this course.
my review
The greens were very slow, the fairways were ok.
I did'nt like the par fives .
Clothing optional
I have played here several times and I have noticed a change in the past year or so. Players attire is no longer an issue, saw people wearing jeans. The lack of a ranger is a problem which should be addresed. At one point in the round last week we had three foursomes and a twosome on the same hole. It is still a great track and I will return.
Mohegan sun CC
Great day!! Staff was fantastic tough greens. Need to hit ball straight not long just straight and you can score well
If 'The Price is Right'
Great course...several areas were still "under repair". Practice facility was not finished but looked fantastic. My watch GPS (bushnell) did not get course info, but we used the on-cart GPS. Can't take carts in parking lot...don't know why. Cannot bring outside booze...(Big Problem for me) Only 1 place to by limited expensive 'refreshments'. No refreshment cart. Rangers were great. They had free water and ice in the on-cart coolers. Greens were fast & hard but consistent. 2ndary ruff was thick. Bunkers soft and fluffy. With a good GolfNow price, you gotta play this course at least once. (I paid $45 for 18+cart) Some holes require a placed tee shot with less than driver or an iron. Be mindful which way the fairway slopes. Also, being below the hole on certain greens are a must to score. The Ranger gave me a yardage book and hoped we would return. I probably will....if 'The Price is Right', Bob.
Excellent Course
Beautiful Course in perfect condition . Played at 4pm basically had the course to myself . Challenging but not overbearing . Staff was great
Gary, Southbury, Ct
No water stations on course - snack shack on turn is closed - thank fully we were comped from casino and payed for carts only - staff had no clue on how to start GPS - $140 to play for the average guy is outrageous - wouldn't go back -
Mohegan
Nice course and professional staff. Many interesting holes that made it fun. Although, I thought it was priced a bit high compared to $45 - 65 courses that where nicer but didn't have the Mohegan Name.
course is challenging,but playable
Second time playing this course. Very good condition, VERY fast greens.Stay below the hole or risk 3+ putts
