Golf in Baltic
Lot's of work being done here. Course has shaped up very nicely. Staff is great! Course has some challenging as well as getable holes to play. Do select the proper T to align with your experience and you will have a great time here. They have a range, it is small and irons only for the most part or you'll bean golfers on the 2nd hole. The lobster roll in the lounge is great! They always have some good craft beers on tap too. It's a little out of the way but with the work being done and the course getting better and better, it is worth the trip.
The sun
The sun Great course very challenging fairways and greens in excellent shape will definitely play there again PS stay out of the bunkers they are difficult
Unique, fun, challenging and slower than a story about riding a giant Galapagos turtle on a glacier made of molasses as read by Ben Stein
Staff greeted us immediately in the parking lot. Then took our clubs away rather quicky so if you plan on pounding beers at this course be prepared right away to stuff them into your bag because there is no chance you'll be able to sneak a little cooler by these people. The key is putting the beer in your bag ahead of time, then on hole number two you simply transfer it to the cooler which comes equipped on the cart.
The staff was not pretentious or snooty at all (which I deal with more often than others simply because i look like i'm in my 20s still). Staff was very friendly.
The golf cart was one of these high tech rigs, so that was definitely a plus (GPS, cooler with water, tee's). They had a free driving range conveniently located next the 1st teebox.
Course was in great shape for late September. Although the greens were aereated, this is probably also why we got a half priced round. Would love to go back and see how these greens are in peak season. Tough pin placements and lots of slope made putting challenging but it sure was fun. Lots of funky greens built into the landscape which I personally like but I could see how others could get frustrated quickly.
Fairways were beautiful and perfect. First cut of rough was very manageable. Bunkers were fluffed up and well taken care of.
Some tee boxes were better than others, but overall they were in great shape. At points, the course is absolutely stacked on top of each of other. And during a busy day, this is not fun. It's not fun to CONSTANTLY be looking around to slow or stop the cart as people were putting or teeing off. I gave up with this practice by the 6th hole. I know this will sound rude, but if a tournament isn't going on, than a I really don't give a hoot about being quiet while you miss your double bogey putt. Life goes on. Let's play some golf and then get back to Mohegan to gamble.
This is main complaint: how the heck do yo guys start so many people at once? You can't be hurting for the money that bad if your charging people around $100 per round. For the love of god, please consider delaying some tee times. In your defense the group ahead of us was very bad and very slow with almost no consideration to the pace of play. But they never asked to let us play through, nor had a notion to do so. That's what your starter/marshall is for. The group ahead of us held up the WHOLE COURSE. Must have been a dozen groups behind us all playing the same 5.5 hour round. Unacceptable. I shot like garbage cause of it. Very hard to play well when your taking sometimes up to fifteen minutes in between shots. You'd think that after taking 14 practice swings you'd get your shot down but it doesn't always work that way. Thank god we snuck beer out there or we woulda been very bored.
Despite the stacked-ness, the holes themselves were amazing. Never seen anything like it. Those two par 5's on the front were the best two consecutive holes i've ever played. Very unique course.
In the end, this course has almost enough to get me back. The pace really put a damper on things. Oh and i forgot to mention that we played on a Monday at noon.
A Gem amidst the cows of Eastern CT
It may take a while to get there for most of us and it seems like a hidden gem amidst the cow farms of Eastern Ct. The course is laid out beautifully with a few holes that seem to be fit for a nanny goat to navigate. We played the blues which was a challenging 130 slope. Although the greens were punched they still played true. We used a HOT DEAL on GolfNow for $71 and played with a 4th person who got in at $44. Wow, very worth it.
Aerification ruins the day
Nice course, good conditions except for the greens, which were horrible. Still recovering from aerification, lots of sand on the surface made putting nearly impossible. Would have been nice for the course to post an aerification notice on its listings. If I had paid full price, I would not have been happy.
Top notch
Greens were fast and true but very receptive, it was like throwing darts!
Crab Grass on Tees and Fairways
I've played a lot of high end golf courses and this is the first one I played on that had crab grass on many of the tees. The tees were beat up on many holes and so were some of the greens. The fairways were in very good shape. However, for $140, the course conditions should be outstanding. What should I pay? $90. The course layout is challenging and there are some very interesting elevation changes and hole layouts. The greens are extremely sloped and undulated so getting on the green in regulation doesn't mean par. You need to enjoy challenging yourself with reading the greens and putting speed. It's a course worth checking out at least once. I likely won't return though for the green fees currently asked for.
Highly Overrated
If not for the Golf Now discounted price I would've been furious. The free range balls were nice, but do not make this a $140.00 course. There was no starter, and no ranger - so it was basically a free for all once you left the pro shop. The course management allowed a group of 9 college players to totally disrupt the pace of play. There were times when 4 groups were on a par 4 either playing or more often waiting for these clowns to finish. We had to wait on EVERY shot, from the 6th hole to the end of the round. Someone in our group called the pro shop to get a ranger to move the 5 some in front of us along - no one ever came out.
Too bad that no one in management seems to care about running a top notch golf club, the layout and scenery were nice and would be beautiful in the fall.
Definitely want to play this coursw again
This is a very enjoyable course. Greens a challenging but fair. I made the tee time as a single but I played with two members who invited me to join them when I arrived at the course.
Pace of play on Wed at midday was horrible. They preach a 4.5 hour round, but then they put out twosomes one after another. No ranger to be seen at all, and slow groups taking multiple extra balls and shots. Greens were really beat up and it seems nobody replaces ball marks on the greens.
Challenging Course in Need of TLC
My wife has a tournament at this course in September, so we drove there to get a sense of the course. While it will make a great tournament course, they host so many of them already that the course is not in the best of shape.
The greens need rolling and attention. The fairways have crabgrass in too many places. And far too many of the bunkers have weeds and little evidence of any attention.
The course is literally in the middle of nowhere.
If you don’t live within an hour or so, it’s not worth the drive.
And it you pay more than $70 on Golfnow, you are wasting your money.
Unbelievable course
My experience was amazing, except for the fact that the club pro had a playing lesson with two people the tee time before me. Took almost 3 hours to play 9 holes, back nine went smoothly. Other than that, course was great. 40$ hotdeal for that course is an amazing deal.
Not much of an "experience"
Course was in average shape. Greens were fast, but rather bumpy. Tee boxes were very spotty. Fairways were nice, rough was penalizing. Bunkers were very inconsistent and full of weeds. Bag drop greeter was less than friendly and pro shop staff not overly helpful. GPS in carts was not working, unless you count running advertisements for up coming concerts at the casino. All in, not much better than most local public courses. I was really expecting more. If you are looking for an "experience" with this type of price tag, I would highly recommend Great River or Foxwoods.
Very Disappointed. Looked forward to a great round with my son. Conditions were very good, Layout very interesting, But 2 Hours 40 Minutes for the front nine and a 10 minute wait on 10 convinced us that enough was enough. The starter told us there were rangers on the course since it was a little backed up from Hole 1 but after the round, another staff member said there are no rangers on this course.
Mohegan sun golf course
Me my friend played mohegan yesterday honestly ove played way better courses it wasnt horrible but if we didnt do golfnow id never pay 140 for it few beautiful holes but the rest were like not impressed the bunkers had weeds in them and the sand was hard if anyone has playing alling i think its way nicer of a course if it was a movie and i worked for rotten tomatoes id give it 20% was not fun or that nice
I've found that driver is fine on the range for most players. I typically hit my driver 240 - 260 and rarely trickle off past the end of the range. You must hit your driver very well :)
