Reminded my of some excellent layouts in Arizona without the cacti and desert. Glad I found this course as we travel the northest this summer.
I am just passing through the area this summer and stumbled upon Shaker Hills by google maps search. Apparently this course had been "let go" in the past several years. New owner has definitely done a great job of revitalizing and revamping in the last year or two . I found the layout called for thought on every shot. A couple of blind or semi-blind shots were a small distraction. The fairways and greens were lush. The greens had enough contour to be challenging even though they were only running about 8 or so. At 10-11 they would be an exciting challenge.
this course has gret features
the shaker Hill is a great golf test. the course is manucure and there's some very challenging holes. The only bad thing was that it's tough to find your distance to the pin when you're not near the 150 mark. it would be great to add a 100 and 200 mark instead of putting the yardage on very sprankler.
Place is absolutely beautiful. New owner has brought it back to life!!!
The course is in amazing shape. Staff is friendly and on the ball. With the renovation of the clubhouse and the other improvements you will not find a better course for the price anywhere. Very worth the trip!!!!
Easily top 5 public course in MA
Worth every penny and then some with the golfnow deal. Great variety of challenging holes with possibly the best set up of par 3 holes in a round. They have invested a great deal of money into the property and it shows. The 18th par 5 is a monster and holds its own in conversation of best finishing hole in the state. Two words explain this place...Top Notch!
Keep the ball in the fairway to score!
sThis course will requires you to hit the fairways. Many fairways are tilted and demand accuracy of the tee. The greens and tee boxes are in excellent shape. The course has some of the most beautiful elevated par 3 tee shots. Its a good idea to play with someone who knows the course cause driver is not necessary of many tees. The course just recently opened and the food and beverage options are limited. We did enjoy the view on the new patio but food service was ok at best. We will give them more time to get ready and try the food and beverage latter this summer but we will be back for another challenging round on a great course.
Great Track.
Really enjoyed Shaker Hill's, the course is in better shape under the new management, and I really enjoyed the new 18th hole par 5.
If you can keep it in the fairway
This is about keeping your ball in play. There are opportunities to let it rip but more often than not you should be playing your most accurate clubs. The par 3 on the third hole is a beautiful elevated tee box hittin ove water to a green tucked into a hill pick the right club on that one. Fairways were plush and the ball rolled well. the sand traps had the right amount of sand and of a type that made your ball fly out of the trap. Greens were slow but consistant, for this class of public course they should be faster. They made the tricky 18th into a dogleg right par 5 that was fun. Stopped at the 19th hole on the turn for a quick snack we had 4 groups go through while we waited for a couple of sandwiches. This will have to be fixed.
Great course
The layout is very nice. Standing on each teebox, the hole is layed out to fit the eye with each shot type.
Very Nice Golfing Experience
Played on Veterans Day 2012. Course was very busy but we were allowed to go off back nine so we did not have to wait at first tee (this is after discovering they had double booked our tee time). Course is under new ownership and looks great and plays very well. Enjoyed the layout and course conditions on a lovely fall day. Had played here Fall '11 and you could tell course was being neglected. This year the fairways and greens were in much better shape and you could tell that the TLC was back. Pace of play was fine. Staff was friendly and accommodating. 18th hole still under construction but looking forward to playing here again in the spring. Would recommend people try out the 'new and improved' version of the course next year.
Almost back to glory
The course is in the process of being turned back into a top notch venue. The upcoming improvements to the clubhouse and course look impressive. Although it has only been reopened for several weeks, the clubhouse manager/owner was terrfic and very informative.
Very good but...
This is a beautiful New England course and my friend and I thoroughly enjoyed playing here except that we did lose more golf balls than usual. The only downside was that, on the day we played, there was not one water jug on the course nor was there anyone driving around either.
