Great layout.
Course has a great layout to it and was in very good condition. Staff was very friendly and super helpful.
Hilly course with many challenging holes.
Well maintained course with a variety of holes. The uphill holes are very difficult and well thought out. Conditions were better than most, only down spot was the areas between the fairways. Greens consistently held the ball nicely on approach shots. Fairways were in top condition. Some Tee boxes were a little uneven and over taxed. Enjoyed the round recommend getting a cart.
This was the first time I have played here, heard so much about it. Fell short of expectations a bit. But uphill holes were amazing and made it worth the trip.
Give yourself plenty of time to warm up. The driving range is in one spot, the putting green another, the chipping area another so you need a good 40 minutes if you want to fit all that in.
great new layout
The course which was always nice has been modified and as a result, you have a much improved track.
The course is always in good shape and this time of year the course is approaching pristine conditions. A great value and solid course to play all year.
Nice track and great finishing hole.
I had expected the course to be pristine based on what I heard from golfers who have played it over the last month or so. Greens were a bit rough after scouring and aeration. While not pristine, it was in good shape. The layout is great and the new 18th hole is now a wonderful closing hole.
Good times
The course is in very good shape and the staff is super friendly. After having some sub-par experiences with the old ownership and staff....it's refreshing to go to course as nice as Shaker Hills and be treated in a friendly manner.
The work that the new ownership has done is great. The clubhouse renovation looks awesome and the new 18th hole is great too (careful...the green is faster than it looks!).
I can't wait to play there again.
Rainy Labor day
First time I've ever played at Shaker Hills and the course was soaked after 2 days of constant downpours yet it drained well and there was no standing water anywhere. In dry conditions, I think this would be a very fun and challenging course.
Hit it straight
I had not played this course in 15+ years and forgot how tough it was until I walked up to the first tee. Shaker Hills is a Top 20 public course in Massachusetts with a combination of tight holes, well placed bunkers in the fairway and great greens. Put this course on your list if you want a true challenge of New England golf.
Great deal for $55.00
First course I've played this year that actually had someone on the course making sure play was up to pace, very impressed! Course was in good condition although I've seen it in better shape several years ago. Like what they have done to the 18th hole and the clubhouse. Looking forward to playing it again.
Good deal
Challenging course ,exceptional layout.some areas of the course need attention but this may have been due to the summer weather.the coupon deal was fabulous and I would return if it was offered again.it seemed more like a country club than a public course
Greens are now terrible
The recently reopened shaker hills was making strides, then they decided to let the greens go. Too bad- nice layout and the course has great potential.
Last 2 trips there have also been 5 hour or more rounds. Not going back until I hear they've addressed both pace of play and course conditions.
Solid Course, Challenging Layout
Greens are fast, tee boxes and fairways are well-maintained. Beautiful clubhouse. The layout is pretty challenging; long, narrow fairways on most holes. Staff was very friendly. The 18th hole is beautiful. They have a TV in the clubhouse with a live feed of the 18th green. Would recommend if you can get a deal, not worth the full price.
Definitely worth a visit.
Fun golf course, lots of variety. Some short par 4s, some long. Interesting set of par 5s, all of which make you think. The greens were ok but I guess public course golfers in MA don't care to fix ball marks. I must have fixed 50 or more today and hardly made a difference. Tee boxes also left a it to be desired, but the fairways were firm and fast and very playable.
Nice GC - Awesome Practice facility- Pace of play=miserable...
Nice Course but something MUST be done about pace of play ... Almost 6hrs for a Late Morning ( 11:20am) Tee Time on a Tuesday , is inexcusable .
Tough course but worth the challenge.
Very scenic course. Extremely quiet not distractions from road noise or neighboring houses. Very challenging layout with sand traps and thick brush gullies and narrow fairways. Greens were in decent shape a few could use some additional TLC but for the most part they were hard and fast.
did not meet expectations
I thought the course didnt meet my expectaoins. I paid a good price through golfnow but if I had paid the regular fee I would have felt very dis appointed. My friends probably over-hyped it for me plus having played Lake of Isles the previous week, well, nothing else is going to compare. It's pretty narrow wit some blind shots which makes it tough for the first time you play it. The greens were so so. Fast but bumpy.Overall not impressed.
Great course- would have been a perfect round if not for the Ranger
We played there on August 16- great conditions, amazing grounds and layout. We ended up paying $55/pp (inc tax and fees), which is a bargain. Only complaint is that the Ranger was really pushy. They tried to squeeze in a two-some in front of us at the turn (it was already backed up so we had to watch the group in front of them, and THEN the two-some tee off on 10)... so we were backed up, but the Ranger for some reason proceeded to shadow us for the next three holes, which took the experience from relaxing to anything but that... I asked the Ranger at one point if he wanted us to leave, and he got the hint and backed off- but for a top-rated course this shouldn't happen.
worth the discounted green fees on GolfNow
2:00pm tee time. First time playing this course after the renovations. a few things put me off. waiting at the bag drop for 5 minutes. The starter telling me there was a group ahead of me at 1:50. that group coming out of the clubhouse at 1:56 and teeing off. Then the starter rushed me onto the tee after they just teed off. No one is more important than anyone else. He didnt understand that. Course renovations were nice. greens were fast but spotty and bumpy. They didn't take well to the aeration 2-3 weeks ago. For the prices they charge you should be able to putt on good aerated greens 2-3 days after. par 3 tee boxes need care. other were good enough but a little rough. Being so critical because they charge an arm and a leg here. If you don't get a GolfNow deal, it's not worth the $90 they charge. Its more for the atmosphere than the course conditions. I'd still recommend the course to people who havent played it. its very challenging. Beginners beware.
Gotta play this course
This course is in great shape, and the many changes since the previous owners a couple years ago are well thought out. Fairways 95 percent pristine. 5 percent still fair. In reguards to the greens: With the exception of one green (that was still in fair condition), all were receptive and playable quick , but very true
( excellent rolling ). Take the extra step and buy a course book, it definitely will save you 3-5 strokes throughout the course when you may need to lay up with a mid iron or prevent driving through the fairway. PLAY THIS COURSE. Played the neighboring Red Tail two weeks prior and not even in the same league as Shaker Hills. Red Tail was in awful shape and the greens not maintained at all. Not the course it was 5 years ago!!!!! SHAKER HILLS is the place to spend your hard earned money and not feel like you got the short end of the stick.
Nice looking course, but needs attention and work.
Very nice clubhouse and surroundings, staff is friendly and eager to help. The course is challenging, some blind shots, overhanging trees make your tee and approach shots difficult.
Tee boxes in rough shape some just dirt, greens are fast but need attention and pin placement is sometimes just cruel (hill-side).
Pace of play is very slow (5hrs plus), not acceptable. We did not see a ranger until the 12th hole, we had to wait at every tee and fairway shot. Given they had an outing earlier in the morning, they could do a better job to manage play and the course.
Great course, excellent redesign, fabulous price!
Have played Shaker Hills once a year for the past seven years. This year I've played it three times! The course in good condition, the greens are fast, and the 18th hole ends at the clubhouse, which is great! Clubhouse is beautiful. Good deal on golf now, and regular website.
