Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Amherst is one of western Massachusetts' premier courses. It plays across a gently rolling landscape accented with mature tree that offers an especially scenic round in the fall thanks to the changing colors of the foliage. The course has some subtle contours but it is still pleasantly walkable and offers just enough of a challenge to appeal to low and high handicappers alike. The layout consists of an interesting variety of holes including some that are long, a few doglegs, and also some birdie opportunities. The golf course finishes with one of the area's most memorable holes. This long par 4 calls for an accurate tee shot in order to avoid the river on the left and the rough on the right. The challenges don't end there either with a second shot to a wide, elevated green protected by large, deep bunkers.

course has potential
Rough was too long, lots of bare spots in first and second cuts, fairways had lots of bare spots due to water damage. Members not that courteous.
A Great New England Course!
This is another area golf course, which over the years, that fell into disrepair, but thanks to the currant Pro, and staff, that's not the situation here now! If you can, come play it, and get ready to be challenged once again, by another "Great New England Course"
great layout
Golf course was in good condition but had some damage to fairways. Mostly contained to unplayable areas. Greens putted very smooth and true.
Only negative was that no food or beverage available until 11am
Very nice course
This is a very nice course. Greens are very challanging and kept in ptistine condition. Lots of stratigcally placed bunkers that protect most greens are in great condition as well. Definately will return soon.
Fair condition
The overall condition of the course was fair. The 10th,11th and 12th fairways were in terrible condition (bare spots and wet....poor drainage from recent rain) The greens were in fair to good condition.
Great course, nice people
The course was in pretty good condition considering the weather we had in this region this summer. The greens were rolling very well, but two or three of the fairways were almost completely gone. For the price and the difficulty of the course I would recommend this course to any of my fellow golfers.
Conditions were very poor
This course has potential.. But the course was in awful shape.. fairways were burnt and seemed like the drainage is very poor.. the course has alot of walkers who are very slow.. dropping multiple balls while other groups wait on the tee box.. This course could use a ranger to speed up play ... Course needs work..
One of the premier courses in Western MA
A testing golf course with challenges on most holes. The par 5's are fair. The par 3's and 4's are where the fun begins. The par 3 17th (182 yards), and par 4 18th (438 yards), are two great finishing holes.
Great Cornish design.
That flooding river still causes damage on a few holes. Other than that I still enjoy the course. Nice test ,with the best finishing hole against the wind in western Mass. Will be back .
Not friendly for a 1st or 2nd timer to the course
It's a relatively long, challenging course, but if you've never played here, there aren't ANY hole diagrams on the tee boxes or on the score card. The course was still recovering from all of the recent rain so it was a bit swampy. Fairways and tee boxes are nice, greens are HUGE, rough is thick and nasty.
Great Semi-Private Course
My son and I played Hickory Ridge on a hot afternoon. The course was wet due to all the rain in the past week. The course is prone to flooding since a small river meanders around the course. The fairways were cut but could not get a good shot off due to the wetness of the fairways. When the course is dry it is a great course, some good challenging holes its somewhat tight fairways make you think your shot ahead especially off the tees.
I would go back when drier conditions exist, the greens are fast and true, despite being wet. The water stations could use cold water instead of lukewarm water. But for the price I can not complain, I would not pay full price though.
very well kept course
I am a former member of this course. It was great to come back and play this course under the new ownership and see that the course is still in great shape. This course has some of the best greens for a "public" course in this area. The only drawback is that the menu offered in the clubhouse was a little lack luster and over priced.
Course is in great shape and back on track
I recall the downfall of this course and am happy to see it back in great shape. The pub is open again with a limited menu, but the food is good. Best Nachos in the valley - a pleasant surprise. I'll be back.
Great Staff
From the pro shop to the restaurant the staff was super friendly and very accommodating! I will be coming back, great time!
The greens are in great shape!
Had the place to myself, and a great big snapping turtle that I managed to avoid. Windy day but tee conditions and turf were good and the greens were excellent. One sand trap was raked and in good to great condition, had no other incident with sand. In the bareness of early spring, I felt like more trees would be better, especially ones that change shots or challenge players. Overall a really great layout and helpful staff. Kendrick in the pro shop was helpful and well versed in his craft.
Course is in great shape.
The only downfall with this course is how wet it was, but that's inherent early in the season at this course. The fairways and greens were in good condition, with the greens soft from the moisture. Giving this course some time and drier conditions, it will play fantastic in the months to come.
Love this course!
I've only played Hickory Ridge 4 times now and feel it's one of the best courses in Western Mass. The greens are enormous and in fantastic shape. Fairways are all pristine as well...really love the layout, especially the par 3's. The only (minor) flaws are that the cart paths need work and there is no bar, but look forward to playing here nonetheless.
Good course, Great price
Even this late in the year the course was in good shape, and the greens were great. Fairways were clear of leaves and debris. Clubhouse staff was very laid back/easygoing. A great late fall round.
Interesting holes
I play this coure 3-4 times a year. Good layout, nice condition. I am glad it is available thru Golf Now.
