Careful - It could be trap
We get to the course and there was an outing out there that started at 12 noon on a Saturday. The starter (very nice) said, you'll catch them but they'll be off the course soon. Well we caught them on the second tee box, and proceeded to wait for 20-30 minutes extra on every hole (they were playing a scramble). After 7 holes, we had been on the course for 2+ hours already, and literally just drove off. FCW got a $100 donation from us.
I think its unethical that you would put an outing out, in the middle of the day, on the weekend, AND have all those tee times open immediately afterwards. Nobody wants to be on the golf course for 7+ hours unless you really aren't there to play golf or hate being at home.
Greens were in good shape, tee boxes as well. Very wet fairways, poor drainage which is a real shame because the layout is very nice. I'll try it again in another 5-10 years.
Challenging
Had a great time with friends. We were exhausted by the 18th hole when we got there we were like we need a Par 3 at the 18th.
Good Course
1,10, and 18 are brutal but besides that the course is fairly straight with no water. Played on a beautiful day so can’t complain about much!
Julie
We enjoyed this course, we booked through golf now there were lots of people there for a Sunday but it was well organized and it was paced very well. This I found to be a hard course, it was challenging. We will return.
Early May round
The greens were still a little shaggy on May 8th as the greenskeepers are letting roots set in and it's been so rainy that they haven't had an opportunity to roll or mow much. They could use a little more fertilizer but overall I was happy with the conditions considering the recent wetness. I shot an 81 because of a double on 17 and a bogie on 18 which I have never parred anyway, it's a funky par 5 because you have to keep your Tee shot short so you don't go in the water but then you end up with a downhill lie trying to hit your 2nd way up hill, I hate that combo! But it's a nice course....Go play it !
Fairchild Wheeler Red Course
Our foursome played the round in just under four hours. The red course has a links feel to it except for 4 holes.Even with recent rain the course was very playable and the starter greeted us in a friendly manner and instructed our group that it would be cart path only on holes 2. 11, &13 only. Otherwise, it was 90 degree rule while driving the carts to the ball. The red course has some easier holes and some challenging par 3's and par 4's. The putting surfaces continue to get better after recent airification. I think with warmer temps coming up will make the greens be in great shape. The course is ideal for those new to the game because the majority of the holes are pretty openly spaced! Our group had a drink in the Vazzi's restaurant after the round. I would say we had a fun day at the Wheel. We will play here again.
Course was very wet - some drainage challenges
Staff were fantastic. ... played the Black course. The front nine are excellent, back nine was very wet
Fairchild Wheeler Red Course
Our foursome played in three and a half hours to complete 18 holes. The pace of play was great and conditions were satisfactory for this time of year. The red course has a majority of holes which are link style golf. I love the course layout which offers a variety of different holes short and long. I recommend plying this course.
Great shape!!!!
Great layout with some challenging hole, beautiful day!
Run down course filled with drunken idiots
I’ve played here probably 30 times in the past, and yesterday will be the last time. The group ahead of us was littering the course with empty fireball bottles, taking big divots on greens, taking 20 minutes on tee box, and then began trying to fight our group for pulling up too close to them on the tee box, regardless of how many times we apologized to just avoid the situation. They rammed their golf cart into ours several times, one of which was in front of staff, yet we were the group being told to “avoid any trouble”. Even after the round, these guys were waiting for us in the parking lot To cause more issues before getting in their cars completely trashed and driving home. Staff was aware of the situation, but did nothing to stop these people from physically attacking us, threatening us, and drive home extremely intoxicated. I have never experienced this at any golf course in my life before and this type of behavior is becoming more common here due to the fact that there are no rangers and staff just wants to collect paycheck doing as little work as possible. Serious golfers, just play somewhere else.
