Veteran's Day Golf
This course is beautiful and well maintained. Even with all the fall leaves they keep it neat. The bar/restaurant serves excellent food, the service is excellent and the bartender is always so friendly and efficient.
Rainy day round.
Despite having to quit after 11 holes my group enjoyed tplaying this course.. thankful t
Hat we were given a rain check for 9 holes.
Not as bad as I was told
The course was in good shape for fall golf. I was told by a few people this course was a "dog track." I did not see that at all. Fairly straightforward course. Hit your driver well off the tee and there are plenty of birdies to have. Greens rolled very fast considering they were just aerated. Leaves were well taken care of. I had a pleasant experience and will definitely go back. The food in the restaurant leaves something to be desired. I would recommend the chicken tenders for a safe bet.
Pace of play
There was 2 of us at 10:51, a foursome in front of us 2 behind us and 1 behind him. The foursome wete extremely slow not play ready and just slow to move.there was a ranger driving around waving to people. The Ranger should have recognized this and let's us go ahead or tell the foursome to speed up. It was very frustrating and csus9 substantial back up.
Great value for the money
beautiful conditions........very green fairways. Greens were fast ad challenging, but need to be aerated.....they were too firm...wedges and high irons were not sticking on the green as well as they should have. Other than that, beautiful course, friendly staff. We will play here again before the year is out.
Just wish I knew...
Course had the greens(practice included) aerated(spike vs traditional) over the prior week...one of our group touted how great it was ...last week...today, the greens were rock hard/dried out...and there were 3 with GUR conditions...trying to be rewarded for good high pitch/chip shots was not an option...course is narrow in many places, and saw slices literally be bounced off sides of hills...refreshment cart was active...putting was, take 2 and see me in the morning...give greens some time to heal over and this course will be a beauty to play...this coming Fall will be magnificent...
Fun Round of Golf
Played with wife and 2 friends. Liked everything about course, great shape and conditions and speed of play. Only drawback seemed to be lack of findable yardage markers. Looking forward to playing here again.
Great round!!!
The course is always in great shape, the staff is always friendly and accommodating. After the round the restaurant is a nice place to relax, have something to eat and drink.
I love it
The staff is exceptional. The cobblestone court paths are amazing! The course is in great shape. It’s my second time playing at Crystal Lake and I’ll definitely be back.
1st time
Greens are fast and true with some tough hole placements. 2 of the par 3s have at least a 60 foot drop. A lot of dog legs with some tough choices to be made, don’t be afraid to lay up first time out. Our entire group really enjoyed the round. It’s a gem of a course, with great practice facilities to boot. Hope to get back soon!
Trying to beat the rain
Got an early tee time to try and beat the rain this day. There was a some type of tourney getting ready to start at 8am, so the starter jumped us to #2 to get ahead of them, so it was clear sailing until we made the turn and caught up with others that obviously went off the back 9 first for the same reason of avoiding the tourney.. but we still played in less than 3 hours.
Best set of holes on the course is 3-5 and love that #4 downhill to the lake.
Other than that set, its a little rough around the edge but as long as the fairways are in decent shape and the greens are good, then to us, that is a good course.
On course staff ruined the round
The greens were bumpy from aerating, but we knew that before we reserved a tee time, so that was OK.
The clubhouse staff were excellent, however, the mowing and on course maintenance staff were in our way and very noisy while trying to make our shots for 6 or 7 holes, therefore ruining the enjoyment of the round. In all my 40 plus years of playing golf I have not run into a more annoying and rude on course staff. Course managers should educate and discipline the staff.
Coming around
I played on a Friday afternoon and the pace of play was very good. The course seems to be rebounding from a difficult winter. I had played here 6 weeks prior and the fairways were burnt to a crisp. They have greened up somewhat but the are a few areas that have a way to go before they are back to what they normally look like. The on course amenities need some improvement. The cart girl was nice the one time we saw her on the 3rd hole. There was no water on the course and the food shack near the 7th/17th greens was not open. Otherwise a very enjoyable day.
