Disappointed

First the good qualities. Clubhouse, staff and conditions of course are great. Some holes are really good. 2 and 6. All holes are built too close together. Tee boxes and greens are next to one another. Balls are flying everywhere. Course can not be walked by an older guy. Hills are steep and treacherous, all green complexes are built up. Greens are very undulating and hilly and too fast. If greens are hilly why make them so fast? As a visitor, who plays a lot of golf everywhere I wasn’t impressed

A must while you can

Can't believe this is going to close. For anyone who loves classic age golf architecture, this Ross is a must to play while it is still open. Greens lived up to the hype

A spectacular Ross layout

Brad Faxon should be removed from the golf community permanently for selling this course to a contractor who is going to build houses on the property. Opened in 1901 and later designed by the great Donald Ross there is no way this course should be allowed to be swallowed up. The layout is true Ross, with fairly wide fairways to hit and trouble all the way from there into the greens. The course was in great shape today and the greens were quick. It is only open until the end of September so you would get out and play this gem before it becomes a house. Brad Faxon, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Premium price crap management

So first the good: Donald Ross design with superb greens. Well maintained
The bad: we where told they didn’t have a range
The ugly and unacceptable: they do have a range but it’s the 11th fairway!!!!!! They also let a single (assuming member) walking (with his non playing wife) out at 8:20 on a busy Friday Nice 5 hour stroll!!! No ranger. Didn’t answer club house phone.

Absolutely not acceptable for the $75 dollars a round. RI has waaaay to many excellent courses for this nonsense

Solid and about to get better

Metacomet is one of several historic courses that make Rhode Island one of America's strongest pound-for-pound golf states. A Donald Ross design like better-known Wannamoisett, Warwick and R.I.C.C., it gets off to an incredibly strong start, with seven stirring opening holes that require all a golfer's shots and nerve.

The rest of the course doesn't quite rise to the standard set by the opening stretch, but nevertheless it is the type of course you'd feel lucky to play every day. With a superb and tough set of greens, it is no wonder that club favorite son Brad Faxon turned out to be a legendary putter. Faxon has recently bought the club with several investors and plans to see it restored to its former glory as a haven of great golfers and one of Providence's jewels. The club currently takes select outside play; non-members should take advantage while it's still feasible.
