The Best Public Golf in NH
This is the best public golf course in New Hampshire, period. Before getting to the first tee you will find a spacious grass tee driving range, large putting green, and achipping area complete with a green side sand bunker. You could spend a day in the practice area alone. The large clubhouse includes a pro shop where you check in, indoor and outdoor pub areas, and a large balcony overlooking 10 tee and 18 fairway. The course itself is always in great shape. The greens roll true but you will face some of the fastest downhill putts in your life here. This is a shotmakers course, the wonderful design prevents most players from bombing drives and trying to overpower the course with well placed hazards dividing fairways on some holes. You need to know your distances and keep the ball below the hole here if you want to score. A wonderful challenge, kept in great shape, with very friendly staff.
The best I have played in New Hampshire
I ventured a considerable distance to the Oaks on a recommendation from a pair of players that I was paired up with at Candia Woods, the Sister course to The Oaks. They said The Oaks was their favorite and after now having the pleasure of playing there, I completely understand why and after just one visit, it is now a favorite of mine.
Outstanding in every way.
The entire layout is gorgeous and everything a golfer today expects in a modern facility. Tee boxes large, squared off, elevated, and maintained. Greens are firm, fast, and true.
Bunker placement is clever, appropriate, and the conditions consistent and playable throughout.
.
Now add a well-stocked, beautifully, and expertly staffed beverage cart service and The Oaks definitely has everything going for it. No other course I have played in New Hampshire has delivered this quality of a golf experience.
I was fortunate to be paired with member Rod N. Super nice guy, great golfer, and extremely helpful in delivering advice where my experience was missing. It was like having a caddy by my side. There is no question this limited the stroke count on an otherwise troubled scorecard. Thanks Rod! Thank you also for helping me find my phone when it bounced out of my cart on #14!
Thank you also to the staff everywhere who I found to be as pleasant and helpful as can be.
I will ABSOLUTELY be returning to play here whenever I find myself back in New Hampshire!
Another Great Time
We like to come up to the Oaks a couple times a year from Mass and it's always worth it. The greens are in top notch condition (as always). If you keep the ball in play, you will be presented good opportunities to score. Very fair, yet challenging course.
Worth the drive!
First of all The Oaks in Somersworth NH is about 1.25 hours north of Boston. So plan accordingly. Secondly- It's worth it. Super layout (and yes, walkable) Multiple tee's make it fun ( don't play the tips- unless you're single digit caps) You can play a mix of them also! ( I wish more courses did that!) The conditions of the course were excellent- The greens..oh my the greens are fast and hard- so be aware! THE best range I've ever been to at a public course to get you ready for your round also- and a great 19th hole! Why go to The links at Outlook (same drive time, terrible staff and conditions and quirky layout) when you can go here and have a much better day. Their sister course is Candia Woods- another fav or mine. ENJOY!!!
Best Public Course I have ever played.
Huge bent grass greens, very fast, bent grass fairways, lots of trouble if you don't stay on fairway, well bunkered, intervening wetlands, double dogleg par five, beautiful landscape, challenging par threes with great variation of tee boxes, course management required with lots of opportunity to weigh risk reward choices, each hole has its special challenges. Not an easy course but when you post a good score you know you earned it. Friendly staff with excellent pros. Good restaurant but be prepared to wait for your food.
Best public course in NH
handicap : 12 been playing golf for 47 yrs.
Pros- This is the best maintained public golf course in NH. Bar none ! If played from the back tees, it is in the top three most challenging public courses in NH. A good course for beginners if played from the front tees. It has the fastest greens of any public course in NH or Maine. You MUST keep your approach shots below the hole or it is three putt city. Best practice range in NH. Very cute cart girls and food & beverage staff.
Cons- cart beers are very expensive. Food used to be very good but currently is very expensive considering the portions.(small)
Golf pricing varies greatly but, there are often good deals on weekday afternoon golf . Pace of play also varies greatly. I have played 3hr rounds and 5hr rounds during week & weekends.
