16th: This 614-yard par-6 can be reached in three strokes by long-hitters, and perhaps three stout shots by average players. The pin is visible, actually, in this slight zoom shot. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/22/2020
-
11th: Ross thought outside the box: this looks like a pitch-and-putt green, a mere 8 yards wide in its front lobe. My son, much to my alarm, hit the middle of the green from 163 yards. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/22/2020
-
9th: Terrific 361-yard downhill par-4, but its tiny green is still nearly impossible to drive for bombers. The scenery is more than acceptable. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/22/2020
-
6th: Ross infused genius into this uphill 4-par (view from behind hole). After travelling uphill 411 yards around the dogleg left, the elevated green—a mild-punchbowl—may seem the least of your worries. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/22/2020
-
3rd: Conclusion to a ‘driveable’ 4-par, if you can hit as long and straight as someone like Jason Dufner. The green is very small and features a declivity directly in front. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/22/2020

1st: Maplewood may have three signature holes, and this, I think, is one of them. It’s a straight but ever-tightening hole en route to this diminutive Ross green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/22/2020

Classic Donald Ross course
I've played and enjoy playing many New Hampshire course. Playing Maplewood for the first time was fun but frustrating. Fairly open off tees but how can you hit these greens! Starts with a nice short par 5 I was on front in 2 and made a birdie. Only birdie of the day. Incredibly tough small greens to hit and read. I'm a 5 handicap and shot 85 on a course that's only 6000 yards from blue tees. Course was in good shape all around but please fix those early 1900's cart paths. If you can hit a 52-60 degree wedge within 10 ft of pin here your playing well. Miss any green and there goes your par. Not really my type of golf but for $10 on Golfnow a great deal.
Pleasent Surprise!
Haven't played here in years. Staying in area & decided to play Maplewood again. Improved conditions and awesome greens. We will certainly be returning during our stay.
Aching back course
The paths are rough. The roughs are rough. The fairways are rough. If you don't have a bad back before you play, you will after.
Old style, old conditions
Old Ross course without many of the famous Ross features. Hard fairways with little contrast with rough. Pay attention to the fairway "goalposts" on most holes as seemingly good drives are not always rewarded by good lies. Very firm greens with lots of break not always apparent to the inexperienced eye. As noted before, back 9 much more playable.
Overall a fair price and a beautiful setting.
Staff pleasant and play light, so set your own pace.
great hot deal and great weather
weather was 77 degrees at 11 am with zero humidity. Golf course was in great condition and greens were really nice. Pace was wonderful at 4 hours. instead of paying 45.00 we paid 16.00 ! Staff was real friendly also.
Awesome views everywhere
Can't go wrong here. Staff is fantastic from manager on down. The facility is impressive, stone main building, sitting rooms dining facility and guest rooms ! Layout is definitely challenging with, side hills, water , and a par six with 2 water hazards! Great views in nearly every direction can be a distraction the first time you play here, and oh, the food is good too...
Front 9
The front 9 is very difficult for the average player. Sloping and uneven fairways and greens. In addition the greens are hard as rocks. Short iron shots to the center of the green will most likely not stay. The back 9 is fine and fun to play. They have a 600 yard par 6 that can be challenging and rewarding. A good drive and second shot can reward you with an easy par. Even by not recommending the course to a friend, for the price it's worth your time to check it out. The club house is very nice, the staff are friendly and the food and beverages are fairy priced.
Nice course
I was in NH on a weekend getaway and found this place on golf now. Although I personally had trouble adjusting to the speed of the greens I thought the course played really fair. If I'm back in the area I will definitely go back for another round. I also had a steak and cheese sub before I played and it was one of the most delicious sandwiches I've ever had.
No drought here.
A few of the courses I've played this year have been dry and hard. Not so with Maplewoods' course. I've played here twice and found it a pleasurable experience on both occasions.
This is a great course
It has some challenging holes and the greens are great.
Beautiful, friendly place
Have played this course several times in past years and decided to become members. Course is well managed, staff is extremely friendly and professional. Greens are meticulously maintained and diabolical, but you would expect that from a Donald Ross course. Views are spectacular and it is a very good value whether you are a member or just walk in off the street.
Best of Northern NH
I have played many of the courses north of Concord and there are no better greens than Maplewood. No faster, no truer, no firmer. A great challenge for any and all golfers. To top it off the staff is simply the best! I highly recommend Maplewood to all!
Fun and Challenging, best greens in northern NH
Beautiful course in the White mountains. The greens are always in phenomenal shape. Every year they improve the course by adding or updating tee boxes or drainage. Highly recommend this course.
Great course, in excellent shape. Fantastic greens.
I really enjoy playing at The Maplewood on Tuesdays. The condition of the course, particularly the greens, is fantastic. Not very long, but lots of interesting and challenging holes. Do yourself a favor and play this course. :)
