Ponkapoag course 2
The only thing I can say bad about the course, are the greens, they are in horrible horrible shape, there are10 different kinds of weeds growing on the greens, and there are sand spots otherwise I love the course.
Greens horrendous
The greens were an embarrassment. The was no grass on at least a 3rd of every green. If there was any green the balled was hopping hitting the weeds and bare spots on the greens. The sand traps didn't have any rakes.
Played in 3 hours which was great but the greens took away any putting.
Course has great features.
The greens were in tough shape but the rest of the course was good. Still had a good time playing this course and the staff were great as well.
Course conditions
The greens are unplayable
It’s a shame the state is still in control of this course
Beyond Horrible
They should seriously close this course. It appears it hasn't been taken care of for many years. Unplayable greens, unkempt grass. They didn't even have rakes at the sand traps.
Course condition
Course 2 is not well kept. Greens are non existent.. leave your putter in the bag.. you’re chipping all day here. Lots of bee hives inside the sand traps. Biggest bees I’ve ever seen.
Avoid at all costs
This place is not well maintained. We got stuck behind an 8-man scramble. Young idiots were purposely hitting balls from the range to the 10th tee box and no one to stop them. range needs more netting. pace of play was 5 hours. Greens were a mixture of sand traps, rough, and water. worst greens I have EVER seen. only play here if you are a beginner. not worth the time or money if you enjoy playing golf.
The course layout was exceptional. I loved the elevation, wide fairways and the dog legs were really fun to play. The rough was way to high for average golfer to play and the green were totally unacceptable.
With a good groundskeeping crew, this course would be a diamond in the rough.
Nice layout, greens were in terrible condition.
It looks like no effort is made to tend the greens. All had bare spots, weeds, overgrown spots. Worst I’ve ever experienced. They took the fun out of the round.
Great course but not maintained
This is a great course that is in meed of proper maintenance. The greens and tee boxes are quite bad. Best to plan on taking two outs per hole and picking up tour ball as its not really puttable. Staff is friendly.
Value - Get What You Pay For
Ponky is an incredible value for the price (mid-week after 2pm, $19). But you get what you pay for. The greens are never in good condition but the fairways are consistently in good shape. The course plays pretty short and its nice and open so its difficult to lose balls. The course is laid out very nicely. If you go in with low expectations you'll be more than satisfied.
Worst Course Condition I’ve Ever Played
The greens were a mix shag carpet, sand, and hard pan dirt patches. My photo is a picture of the best green condition I found all day. One green was entirely sand/dirt. Couldn’t tell where the fringes end and the greens begin. Same for rough and fairways. Easy to lose a ball if you’re slightly into the rough with how tall the grass was. The only worth out of playing this course is working on FIR and GIR skills.
Ponkapog
Years ago good course #1.I don't like fishing but I rather fish than play that course. The state has let it detereate..
Great course but greens are in tough shape
I love the course - beautiful setting, challenging but fair, but their achilles heel are their greens. Some have big dirt patches and exceptionally slow.
