Located just three hours outside of Boston, Sunday River Golf Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., is worth the short trip, especially if you are coming from Portland, which is less than two hours away. It is one of New England's must-play golf courses. The layout is nestled in the foothills of the Mahoosac Range, overlooking the beautiful Sunday River Valley. The course itself is perched on a sloping hillside, offering panoramic views that stretch all the way to Old Spec, Maine's third highest peak. The spacious course measures in at 7,130 yards from the tips. Jones fully utilized the naturally dramatic elevation changes, so be prepared for some uneven lies and the occasional blind shot. The course's challenges are nicely balanced by generous greens and wide fairways, making Sunday River Golf Club accessible for a wide range of skill levels.

Played at one of the most beautiful the golf courses in the world years ago in Cape Breton Highlands (that's also the name of the golf course it happens to also be the # 1 golf course in Canada) with that said I thought it would never be surpassed , well it has, and it's the Sunday River Golf Course in Newry Maine. The course is breathtaking and it's well kept. Challenging but fair, your lucky if you get a flat lie at any time during your round of golf. The staff is friendly and laid back, nice 19th hole. Had a great time. Would recommend it to anyone who's a golf enthusiast.
