Freeport Country Club
About
Freeport Country Club is conveniently located just 20 minutes from Portland, Lewis-Auburn, and Brunswick-Topsham and it is also only minutes from one of Maine's most popular attractions, the L.L. Bean flagship store. Freeport itself is also a charming destination, with plenty of shopping and activities available. The nine-hole layout is gentle enough for beginners but there are still a few challenges in store. The holes are tight and golfers will be confronted with the occasional elevated green. The course is known for having some of the area's best maintained greens. There are also three ponds that come into play. Whether you play a nine-hole round or a full 18 holes, the golf course is a great price, especially for the country club-quality. The well conditioned driving range at the club is also popular.

Freeport
Despite the rain, the course wasn't holding too much water. Greens were in great shape and staff was friendly as ever.
Please don't go
This is by far the worst course I have ever played. The layout is terrible, the pace is terrible, there is nothing that makes sense about this course. If you want to have the worst time of your life, by all means, book a round here. My hope is that nobody ever plays this course ever again. Do not waste your money or time or a nice day on this pathetic excuse for a golf course.
Course is good to practice on!
Fun little course couple of dumb holes but all and all ok ! A lot of road noise and rifle range noise!
Poor course conditions
This course in the past has been great but now it is getting bad. The rough is 6 in or more and the fairways are way to long. the tee boxes are not set up correctly. the only good part is the greens are not bad, I have seen them better. I don't know what Harris is doing but he is not spending any money on keeping up on everyday maintenance and it really shows.
Freeport country course
I enjoyed my round of 9 holes except for the noise emanating Ftom the nearby interstate highway and some odd routings of golfers at certain points on the course due in part to using varying tees to make this into an 18 hole experience. The experience would certainly be better on a low volume day and not near rush hours on the interstate.
Fooled by the reviews....horrible shape and horrible golf holes.
Don't your time or money, this course should be made into a parking lot. I have never experienced a course in this bad shape as well as such a bad layout....the only plus is the greens were okay,.
Hello Sam499222,
Sorry to hear your experience at Freeport wasn't what you were expecting. Most of what we've heard regarding Freeport's conditioning has been positive this year, so we'd like to understand some specifics about your experience, please reach out to info@freeportcountryclub.net.

Great conditions
Freeport CC is a 9 hole gem of a course. Great practice facility with friendly staff. Well worth a golf now rate, actual rates are on high side. Greens and fairways in great shape as of 9/12/15. Very quirky holes but challenging for all skill levels. Will come back on a hot deal only.
Hi neondeon1212,

Some trickey greens.
The course was in good shape. A few greens with challenging slope.
Freeport is a nice place but. ..
We all know Freeport is a nice place to shop and walk around but that's about it. I had high expectations for this course which may be why I was let down. The layout is weird and the holes are strange. Feels like someone just slapped this course together yesterday in there back yard. Greens are "ok" tee boxes are horribly uneven. If your a first time golfer this is the place for you but if not than stay away. Wish I had a better review but it is what it is. L.L.Bean should step in and build a links style course or something because this place doesn't do Freeport justice. Cheers.
Hello, Dan19gng:
Sorry to hear that your expectations weren't met at Freeport when you played. While we would never suggest that the course is the same caliber as a Sunday River Golf Club or Pebble Beach, it has definitely established a reputation over the last fifty years as a local track that's easy to get to and fun to play. And the practice facility is definitely worth checking out-- natural teeing areas, target greens and bunkers, a huge, undulating putting green.
We'd like to find out more about your experience and see if we can't get you back to Freeport for another try. You can go ahead and reach out to us directly at FreeportCCME@gmail.com , we'd appreciate the opportunity to reach out to you directly.
Thanks for your feedback, Dan. Fairways and greens!

Fun course with a variety of hole types
The conditions of the course we're well kept. Greens, fairways, tee boxes are taken care of. The driving range and practice green were also great. There are 4-5 target greens on the range.
As this was my first time playing the course, there were a few holes that were a little bit confusing to navigate. But once we made the turn, it seemed like you can really attack the course. There are several scenic parts of the course that makes it unique (especially hitting over water on 3 holes.) I would recommend this course to anyone who loves a great value.
The difficulty of the holes range from a short par 4 where u can reach the green with a pitching wedge then sand wedge to a long downhill par 3 tucked into the woods with a small green. I'd say that this course will challenge any skill of golfer.
My only criticism is that there was no starter at the first hole, or anyone managing the start times. Not really a big deal or deal breaker.
I enjoyed the course and would play here again.
Straight forward and fairly easy...
The beginning holes near the pro shop are fairly bland, but once you get to holes 4,5,6,7,8 they're much more interesting. Worth a play if you're in the area. Greens were in very good shape and other than quite a lot of low, damp areas the overall course was in pretty good shape.
then stay out of the rough!
