Blackledge Country Club - Anderson's Glen
About
Blackledge Country Club is home to two championship golf courses that are both known as some of the best golf in the greater Hartford area. Opened in 1963, Anderson Glen is known as the "Old Course" while Gilead Highlands, opened in 2000, is known as the "New Course." The older course has a more traditional layout but it is just as challenging. The golf course sprawls across acres of lush countryside, providing plenty of trees and water hazards. There are some elevation changes that can cause uneven lies as well as some undulation in the greens and fairways. The 13th is a particularly notable par 3 for its scenery but also its level of difficulty. Although the downhill tee shot will only require a short iron there is trouble all around in the form of protective bunkers and a pond.

The second hole’s bold right side bunker might snag a long hitter’s rightward-erring drive. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Hole two, again (seen from behind green): It is cast in the mold of classic short par-4. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The long, par-5 fourth has a wealth of particularly troublesome hazards, stretching all the way from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Set upon a small plateau, green six is also narrow, so landing on it in regulation calls for a very clean iron shot. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The seventh’s deviously sloped green is sided by deep bunkers, serving to punish wayward approaches. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

2nd Hole: A 'routine' downhill par-4, but far from a pushover. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

The third: A long hole that is also long on trouble. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Five, looking back on hole: challenging, uphill 374-yard four-par. (Greenside bunkers out of view from this angle). Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Classic New England course
Played this classic New England course and found it challenging and interesting as you wend your way through the hills that feature ancient trees, lovely ponds, and ever present breezes. The course design is classic. The course conditions are unbelievable considering last year's continuous drought. Staff is super helpful and the restaurant serves great food at reasonable prices. A gem not to be missed!
Blackledge Special AM rate
The course was in excellent shape and I only paid $30, the caveat was my tee time was before 8:00am.
The course was challenging with uphill and downhill holes. The Greens rolled beautifully and quick but not overly fast.
Went into the restaurant afterwards and Ron the bartender was very informative about the menu.
Will definitely play again....
Nicely Conditioned
Course was nicely conditioned, Greens were smooth and rolled nicely. Greens sloped back to front and void of ball marks. Fairways were clean and did not have grass clippings.
Overall it was a pleasant experience.
Great Course
Pace of play was under 4.5 hours. Greens and fairway were in great shape. Very enjoyable. Great staff in Pro Shop and Restaurant.
Perfect Golf Experience
I had the pleasure of playing the Anderson Course at Blackledge Country Club yesterday. Being from out of state and living around the best courses in the country I was blown away by the course conditions and layout. The greens were fast and smooth and the pace of play was great. The staff was very friendly and the food afterwards was fantastic. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to play a great course.
Double Bogey
It's almost the middle of November and they still haven't changed to off season rates. The greens were recently aerated and hadn't been cut in a while. It felt like putting on a hairy fairway. Don't bother playing if they still refuse to substantially cut their rates and go to real off season pricing
A great course at a great value
Great variety and memorability throughout. Conditions were excellent as was the scenery. Very friendly and professional staff with terrific amenities, including accurate indoor golf simulators in the winter. Would happily play there again any chance that I get. Both courses are excellent!
poor greens
had to wait about 30 min for frost delay but starter was friendly to talk to. THE PROBLEM IS they had aerated the greens and that was not noted when I made my reservation nor were we told until after we paid. the greens also had not been cut and played like the ball was in the fairway. this was extremely disappointing as the greens were unplayable. all the staff said was 'take a two putt'. course had some nice holes and bunkers were in good shape. I would not recommend playing here for the next two weeks until the greens were able to recover. additionally, the care we were given had terrible steering almost to the point where it was dangerous to drive. I would have rated this course 'average' if the greens were in better condition
Sorry you were unhappy with your experience at Blackledge. Aerification of greens is a necessary evil for all courses to undergo this time of the year. Our greens were done October 18-19. After they are done they typically seem slow and hairy because as the plugs get pulled out they cause the grass to no longer be laying down uniformly. I assure you they were mowed, it just takes some time for them to heal. All times booked online for that week did have an aerification warning on the booking page. Sorry you didn't see or were aware of that.
terrible greens, slow play
Played for 2 years in an after work Thursday league. Fairways and tee boxes are fine, scenery is nice, nice bar/restaurant, but probably the worst greens I've ever played on. They seem like they are in a constant state of maintenance the entire year, and they are never cut so they're beyond slow and inconsistent from hole to hole. Combine slow with plug holes and it's not even worth putting. As soon as the giant plug holes fade away, they plug again. Pace of play was always slow, 3 hours + for 9 holes with no rangers doing anything about it. 4 groups on the same hole is common, 2 on the box, 1 in the fairway and 1 on the green. Layout does not support condensed tee times - a par 3, then a 5, then a 3, then a 5 gets completely backed up. It was a beer league and I was there for the elbow rubbing, but I would not choose this course if I had a day off.
Fred sorry you feel this way but if you played in a league every week what you say you know is not true. We aerify our greens once in the spring and once in the fall like every other course in the state. When they are freshly aerified yes they can be slower and bumpy but this is a necessary process and again common at all other courses. Also as you say yourself you played in a "beer league" designed for "rubbing elbows" so I wonder if maybe it was you and your league causing the slow play?
Good Time
Enjoyed the day except the greens needed to be cut. Rolled true but speed was slow.
Comparable to Farmington Country Club
I was invited by a private member to play Farmington Country Club the other day and I have to say for the money Blackledge is on par with the conditions of that course.
Great Course
Course in excellent shape , have played Blackledge Before but never front 9 at Anderson course great job Blackledge
Tournaments
They have Men's tournaments on Saturday's & Sunday's. Pace of play is good, course is always in great shape. Enjoy playing here.
Enjoyable..!!
Great course for all levels of play. Consistent conditions, tough greens to master, fun layout.
Great course - Excellent Conditioning
Great course - Excellent Conditioning.
I payed with the senior rate during the week for $40 which included a cart and $5 restaurant coupon. Pace of play was good, finished in 3:45 for 18 holes for a foursome. Remember to grab a cart before going to the proshop, they're in the circle as you drive up. Staff was friendly, John was very helpful in the shop. Good assortment to chooses from in the restaurant, Brian was very helpful.
Greens were excellent, not fast, but with the heat they were nice and green and rolled true.
Great course in the area
All good things to say about Blackledge Country Club. For the weather we've been having the course is in great shape. They must be watering like crazy people! We've had 10-15 days of over 90 deg.and the greens are in great shape!
greens need help. way too many ball marks not repaired
greens need help. ever since they put that new course in ball marks on greens have been many without the golfers repairing them other thenm that great courses
nogovern Ball Marks on greens that don't get repaired by the golfers that make them are a problem at every course although I assure you that our crew is constantly going through our greens fixing ball marks and doing everything possible to make our greens the best around! I'm sorry for your experience but I would say unfortunately you were following some players who did not fix their marks that day. To characterize our greens as needing help from this I think is unfair.

Awesome course!
We had a great time! Everything about the golf course was top notch--we played the Anderson's Glen course. Tee boxes, fairways, green's all were in top shape. Very well cared for golf course. The staff was VERY friendly---pro shop, outside attendant, maintenance workers, golf cart girl and the bartender were all super friendly. This is a challenging course and well worth the money. You will not be disappointed. I play a lot of different courses and I will be back on Friday to try the other 18 hole course.
Thank you for a job well done!

great day with a buddy
My buddy played this course with his dad and uncle 40 years ago, so it's always a nostalgia trip when we go. Course is in great shape, greens were a bit slow (it was a Tuesday and it was hot with a heat wave coming, no need for the course to cut them) but they rolled nicely. Slow first nine, groups in front were in a league, back nine flew around. The course has some challenging holes but is very fair. we'll go back.
Best course in the area.
Blackledge CC provides great playing conditions and a beautiful layout. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is great. I would highly recommend coming to Blackledge to play for a fun and enjoyable round of golf.
