Richter Park Golf Course
About
Situated at the heart of Fairfield County, Richter Park Golf Course is situated along the West Lake Reservoir. The course has been ranked among not only the top ten golf courses in Connecticut but also as one of the top 25 public courses in the country. The course sprawls across more than 180 acres of gently rolling hills. Water has a prominent presence throughout, with the Reservoir bordering seven holes on the front nine and water hazards coming into play on a total of 14 holes. In addition to the water, there are a variety of elevation changes ranging from subtle to dramatic, which can make it a tough golf course to play your first time. Be prepared for a few blind shots. Richter Park's signature hole, the par-5 12th, is bordered by Boggs Pond. Your third shot will be over water to a bunkered green.

Richter Park during fall foliage Photo submitted by dplevin11 on 10/05/2013
Good Track. Recommend.
If you have a chance to play this course this season definitely do it. Don't play on Sunday though, 6 hour round easy. They've done well with the conditions this season at keeping this place on the greener side. Will play again.
Slow on Friday
Really nice course. About three groups ahead were really slow, took 7-8 holes for ranger to address it.
Course layout is good but tricky. Have to play here a bunch to know how to play the course well.
Course was in great condition, especially in current drought. You can tell they are interested in maintaining the course… even saw a group filling in divots in the rough with sand mix!
Richter Park is a fun course to play!
The course is challenging but fair. The fairways were in good condition, and the rough was cut to a manageable length. The greens were in good condition, but I found them to be a little slow. Maybe due to much needed watering , as we are in a drought. Thanks to the staff, the grass is not burned out like some other courses I have played recently. I did fix numerous ball marks on every green. (Stop being so lazy people , it’s your responsibility!!
The course is about an hour drive for me, but I will definitely continue to make the trip to Richter park!
Sahara in Danbury
It’s summer. It’s hot. It’s the golfer’s responsibility to bring water…
However, it was nearly a 100 heat index yesterday and the beverage cart came by one time. The food/bev shack was closed when we made the turn at 5:07, and there was zero water available on the course.
If you’re not going to allow coolers, please provide the basic essentials necessary to stay hydrated or at the very least, alert potential customers that they are on their own for water.
Great layout
First time playing the course in 15 years. What a nice layout! Played with two golfers who play the course regularly. This helped big time, because there are a ton of blind shots, funky, sloping fairways and large greens. Played okay, but feel like not really remembering the course cost me more than a few shots. Will book again in the fall when the foliage begins to change. So picturesque and they do a great job involving the bodies of water in the layout. Wonderful and inviting staff!
Worth the drive
The staff is super nice, range is in great shape and the course is fantastic. Worth the 75 minutes from Long Island.
Good day
Had a good day. Course was dry and ground was hard - if you missed the green your ball could be gone. And why are all par 3 over water - at least it seemed that way.
Some Maintenance Basics
This is my home course and I love it! It is one of the best in Connecticut, but there are a few things that can be easily remedied to make it great. Mostly that involves filling the divots on the T each time the T markers are moved. The new T on 13 is already looking shabby because that has not been done. There are also several fairways where Carts cannot access and people forget to bring their Divot bottles with them. Those fairways are in desperate need of a concentrated divot-fill regimen. Great work on the sight lines/tree removal (don’t forget the choking vines climbing up the trunks!) and the green repairs. We’re proud of our course!
Great Experience
We played two different courses in the area within 30 miles) on consecutive days. The experiences could not have been more different. Both courses were challenging. Richter Park was challenging, but fun and fair. The staff at Richter Park could not have been better. (that was the biggest differnce between the two courses). Everyone at Richter Park, from the starter, to the pro shop staff, and the wait staff both on and off the course, was extremely friendly and accomodating. It was out first time and we could not have had a better experience. Thank you. We look forward to coming back.
