Solid course

This course has a very good layout, great for a quick 9 and amazing for the price. It’s great to work on ball striking however the greens are insanely slow. Certain parts of the course get extremely wet as well. Overall I’d recommend this course.

April weather was as expected, cool and windy.
First three holes, fairways were VERY soggy. Greens were treated late season last year and in very good condition for the spring. Still need to trim VERY overgrown trees that obstruct approach shot to greens after a good tee shot in the fairway (holes 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9).

Tee boxes are in POOR condition and the trees are overgrown blocking good tee shots. Tree trimming would also improve most of the tee boxes because they never get sun light. If they did some tree trimming and seeded the tee boxes it would make this course more popular and produce more income. I enjow this course's layout, still a good value.

Excellent 9 hole course

Course is usually in good shape and the pace of play great. You can use most clubs in your bag at least once. Highly recommended for a quick 9.

Nice Round

Greens in great shape. Little shaggy. Tee boxes could use more work. Pace was perfect.

Nice Romp on an Enjoyable Nine-Holer

I’ve reviewed this course a couple of times last year, so here, instead, is the capsule summary:

A) The holes I like most are one, two, and six. One starts the round with a tee shot of medium to higher difficulty, depending on which tee you play. Two is a solid par-4 with a pesky stream in the landing zone, then a huge overhanging tree acting as sentinel on the green’s right side. Six is a classic, gently bending par-4, again with a stream at the back side of the landing zone, followed by a nearly woods-encircled putting surface.
B) Eighth is the tightest, toughest hole. Pars are well-earned here, even though this uphill tester measures only 350.
C) Alone worth the price of admission, the island green seems to be the prime attraction for most. From the back tee at 138, it’s no picnic, and anyone whose tee shot misses the island narrowly is in for something more than a small letdown. All part of the fun.
D) The par-5’s are straightforward but represent birdie opportunities.
E) Nicely kept overall. The conditioning today was good, but there’s still some room for improvement on areas of the fairways and some of the tees. The greens run smoothly at medium speed. Pace of play was decent.
F) I’ve never been disappointed by the service or friendliness of the staff. Never. And I’ve played the course (as a former member over a three year stretch) hundreds and hundreds of times.

Note: A few of the pictures submitted with this review were taken earlier this year during the spring (I live in town).

My Favorite Local 9 Hole Course.

I have played Chanticler three times and have enjoyed each round. The course is challenging without being overly difficult. Holes are not real long, which is good for a senior golfer such as myself.

Pace of play has been a bit slow. Today is Father's Day, so probably more play than usual.

Check out this course. I think you will enjoy it.

Worst course I have ever played

If you like fairways with more dirt than grass, rough that is so thick you could be standing 4 ft from your ball and not see it, unkempt tee boxes, rude staff, horrible cart paths, and a confusing layout, this is the course for you

Saturday Morning

Played a quick 9 on Saturday morning with a buddy of mine. Cheap on golfnow, expectations were low. $50 for 2 players and a cart for 9. Cool. Course was.dry. Connecticut has been dry. All the water hazards were extremely low and it looks like the only part of the course that sees constant water is the greens, teeboxes were pretty hard and not distinguished. Putting was slow, but fun. There are some really hard holes, 6, 7, 8 that require precise shots. 4th hole could be beautiful considering its design, and the first 3 holes are a nice warm up. Good course for the beginner golfer to learn to play. Guy in shop didn't offer any sort of guidance...but its pretty self explanatory. We did 9 holes in about 2 hours.
